The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has acknowledged the 2017 Kia Sportage as one of the safest cars on the road by awarding it the IIHS’ highest honor–the Top Safety Pick + . Kia Motors America Vice President of Product Planning, Orth Hedrick, reacted with pride after Kia received such an honorable distinction.
“The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is one of the most recognized and respected organizations in the industry when it comes to evaluating vehicle safety, and as such, the Top Safety Pick + designation is a significant achievement,” said Hedrick, “We are especially proud to have our all-new Sportage earn that Top Safety Pick + rating in light of IIHS’ new, more challenging standards, validating the efforts of our engineers and the priority we place on safety.”
The challenging standards of the IIHS’ new safety tests required “good” ratings in five tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints. However, to qualify for a Top Safety Pick + award, a vehicle would have to also score an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention.
