Happy 30th Anniversary, Hyundai Sonata!

Hyundai Sonata Infographic

It’s crazy to think that when the Hyundai¬†Sonata was first produced, “Back to the Future” and “The Breakfast Club” ruled the box office, while Wham! and Madonna topped the Billboard charts. After seven generations of the popular midsize sedan, the Sonata is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and we’ve never been prouder to sell the vehicle at our Chicagoland Hyundai dealership.

More than 7.3 million models of the Hyundai Sonata have been sold globally since its 1985 introduction, and more than 2.3 million models have found homes in the United States since the car debuted in our country as a second-generation model in 1988. The Sonata has been dramatically transformed over the years, evolving from its early angular silhouette to today’s Fluidic Sculpture design language. Technologically, the car played an integral role in the auto industry’s digital revolution of the 1990s and 2000s, and in recent years, it has even welcomed hybrid models to its family.

With all-new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models coming later this year, the Hyundai Sonata is poised for another 30 years of success with its fuel-efficient and sustainable design. Estimated by Hyundai to return up to 44 mpg on the highway when it goes on sale later this spring, the 2016 Sonata Hybrid will save its owners loads of cash during their commute while still offering a total output of 193 horsepower. For drivers who want to leave an even smaller carbon footprint, the 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid is slated for a manufacturer-estimated 93 MPGe and a class-leading 24-mile all-electric range when it goes on sale as Hyundai’s first-ever plug-in hybrid in late 2015.

Looking to celebrate the Sonata’s 30th anniversary by purchasing a model of your own? Check out our Hyundai Sonata inventory and then head to our Hyundai dealership in Algonquin, IL, for a test-drive!

All-New 2016 Hyundai Tucson Uses Technology to Boost Fuel Efficiency and Safety

2016 Hyundai Tucson

The sleekly redesigned 2016 Hyundai Tucson won’t go on sale until July, but it is already being called the most technologically advanced compact crossover SUV by some industry experts. Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show earlier this month, the 2016 Tucson will leverage advanced features to boost fuel economy, safety, convenience and connectivity.

Hyundai’s next-generation Tucson will be available with a new 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is predicted to produce an impressive 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Paired to a segment-first seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission that optimizes efficiency and acceleration, the new 1.6-liter unit is estimated by Hyundai to return up to 33 mpg on the highway, which would be a 5-mpg improvement over the Tucson’s outgoing 2.4-liter engine. The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will carry over from the previous generation, but it is also expected to be slightly more fuel efficient.

With more than 50 percent of its new chassis comprised of high-strength steel, the 2016 Tucson will provide greater crash protection despite its efficiency gains, targeting the top safety ratings in the industry. Meanwhile, a wide range of newly available active-safety technologies will help prevent accidents in the first place, including Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Backup Warning Sensors, Blind Spot Detection, a Lane Departure Warning System and Lane Change Assist. The new Tucson will also offer a standard rearview camera and optional HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Light, which will turn with the direction of the steering wheel to improve visibility around sharp corners.

Inside its more spacious cabin, the 2016 Hyundai Tucson will feature larger touchscreens, including a standard 5-inch LCD screen and an available 8-inch navigation touchscreen. For the first time, Tucson buyers will be able to opt for integration with Apple Siri Eyes Free and apps like Pandora Internet Radio and Yelp. To simplify the loading of groceries and gear into the rear cargo area, an optional smart power liftgate will automatically open after the owner stands a few feet behind it for a couple seconds with the key fob in their pocket or purse.

Whether it’s the fuel-saving powertrains, crash-preventing features or convenient connectivity, the redesigned 2016 Hyundai Tucson will be the perfect compact crossover SUV for navigating the ins and outs and comings and goings of your Chicagoland commute. We can’t wait to welcome the vehicle to our Algonquin Hyundai dealership this summer!

Hyundai Santa Fe and Sonata Honored as Best Cars for the Money by U.S. News

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Getting a great deal on a new car involves much more than simply finding a low purchase price, which is why U.S. News & World Report releases its annual Best Cars for the Money awards to help buyers factor in overall quality and value in the long term. In the recently released 2015 edition of the awards, the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe and Sonata were winners in the 3-Row SUVs and Midsize Cars classes, respectively.

To examine the value of each vehicle, U.S. News combined the average purchase price according to TrueCar with the five-year total cost of ownership from Vincentric. Meanwhile, quality was measured by a car’s reliability and safety ratings as well as its reviews in the automotive press, which were quantified in U.S. News rankings based on performance, interior comfort and interior features.

Topping its segment for the third straight year, the Hyundai Santa Fe has become a mainstay in the Best Cars for the Money awards because of its excellent value and its spacious interior, which includes intuitive standard technology like the Blue Link Telematics System, steering-wheel-mounted audio, cruise and Bluetooth controls, and a 4.3-inch color touchscreen with a rearview camera. On the other hand, the fully redesigned 2015 Hyundai Sonata earned an award this year thanks in part to the critical acclaim it has received for its smoother ride and quieter, more refined cabin.
