If you’re worried about sacrificing spaciousness when buying an affordable Nissan Versa subcompact, NFL offensive lineman John Urschel is here to set your mind at ease. While his teammates have opted for large trucks and SUVs that cost tens of thousands of dollars, the 305-pound Baltimore Raven purchased a pre-owned 2013 Versa for $9,000 after signing his professional football contract, and he has praised the vehicle, calling it “surprisingly spacious” in a recent article on ESPN.
The fact that the Versa can accommodate Urschel’s sheer size is impressive on its own, but his vehicle choice is also notable considering that he is one of the most intelligent players in the NFL. The fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft earned his bachelor’s degree in just three years at Penn State, and he then spent his fourth year at the university receiving his master’s degree in mathematics. When someone has written a journal paper titled, “A Cascadic Multigrid Algorithm for Computing the Fiedler Vector of Graph Laplacians,” you can probably trust his opinion when he says that the Versa is “great on gas.”
Though Urschel can dive deep into technical matters, one of his favorite things about the Nissan Versa is an obvious benefit that any driver can appreciate.
“And you know what the best feeling is? You’re driving into a parking deck, it’s near full and you’re on the first level and there is that space that everyone has passed because they said, ‘No, we can’t park in there.’ And I take my Versa and I just go right in there. I’m on the first level, parking lot full and everyone else is parking on the upper deck where the car is getting hot. I’m not even taking the stairs.”
If you’re still not sold after that anecdote, we suggest taking the 2015 Nissan Versa Sedan or Versa Note hatchback for a test-drive at our Milwaukee Nissan dealership. Both vehicles can return up to 40 mpg on the highway, and they feel even more spacious when you’re not an NFL lineman!
